TechSAge had a big presence at the International Society for Gerontechnology 15th World Conference in Vancouver, Canada this March. Jon Sanford delivered a keynote address and several team members gave presentations on topics including digital literacy, technology solutions to support caregivers, and robotics.

Featured Article: Development and Usability of MSafe: A Fall Risk Application for Older Adults with Multiple Sclerosis
Falls are common among older adults with multiple sclerosis (MS) and can lead to injuries and loss of independence. A new TechSAge article in Sensors highlights the development of MSafe – a smartphone app that enables individuals with MS to assess and monitor their own fall risk. The app asks simple questions (e.g., fall history, medications) and includes short balance, movement, and thinking tasks. Older adults who tested MSafe said it was easy to use and helped them better understand their own abilities and fall risk. Read the full open-access article by Katherine Hsieh, Deborah Backus, T. Staff Spotlight: Yining Zhang
Yining Zhang is a graduate student in Global Media and Cultures at Georgia Tech. He is a research assistant on the Tele Tai Chi project, where he is analyzing interview data from participants about their experience in the clinical trial. Yining’s research interests include human-computer interaction for gaming and older adults, and she wants to explore how gameful design can support older adults’ wellbeing and engagement. Yining plans to pursue a PhD to continue this work. Fun fact: Yining is a passionate home cook and once dreamed of becoming a professional chef!
