Featured Article: Social participation challenges and response strategies identified by adults aging with a disability
A new TechSAge article published in the Journal of Elder Policy explores the challenges people aging with vision and mobility disabilities face participating in social activities and their coping strategies. Using data from the Aging, Challenges, Concerns, and Everyday Solution Strategies (ACCESS) study, researchers identify key barriers, such as inaccessible environments and information, as well as personal factors (e.g., lack of social support). Findings highlight the role of assistive technology and inclusive design to enhance community participation and social connectedness. Read the full article by Maurita Harris and Wendy Rogers.

Staff Spotlight: Sarah Carpenter
Sarah Carpenter is a doctoral student in Occupational Therapy at Georgia State University. On TechSAge, Sarah supports the SmartBathroom Testbed, which aims to develop and evaluate innovative bathroom technologies to support the performance of transfer activities among individuals aging with disabilities. Her work focuses on video analysis of participant trials and identifying new ways to improve usability and safety of the SmartBathroom’s adjustable fixtures, including a toilet, grab bars, and bathtub. Fun fact: Sarah visited Paris last summer to attend the Olympics!
